The Idea
Long before Hidden Oaks was ever an idea, the Anderson family had put a lot of hard work into the making of the beautiful land that it is today. Larry and Sandy Anderson have lived in Dothan for most of their adult lives. They have one son named Hunter, who served in the Army for 10 years. While Hunter was deployed to Afghanistan, he was wounded in a near ambush, which led him to an extensive recovery and on a new journey that he had never imagined. After almost a year of recovery, he volunteered for a reconnaissance mission in south Texas where he could continue to regain his strength while still being operational in a low-threat environment. During that time, he met Jazmin, and the two quickly fell in love. After being together for two years, they decided to elope to Puerto Rico to have an intimate ceremony and avoid choosing a wedding location between Texas and Alabama. Family members on both sides were overjoyed to hear the news, but still wanted to throw their own celebration for the newly-weds. Sandy quickly went to work looking for the perfect venue in Dothan. While searching, Sandy learned that although there were a variety of event spaces in the Wiregrass, they were constantly booked, and none held the natural beauty that the farm held. That's when she realized that we could build our own venue at the farm. What started out as a laughable idea turned into a serious conversation, and eventually led to Hunter and Jazmin moving to Dothan in order to work on and manage the event space, with Larry generously funding the project. Dothan has a variety of event venues, with some holding as many as 500 guests, while others holding a modest 30 guests. We wanted our venue to be somewhere in between- not too big, not too small, with an inside and outside feel, full of southern charm, and surrounded by nature.
